Design Competition
How to Enter: Beginning 12:00 AM Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) on October 29 through 11:59 PM EST on December 1, 2009 (“Contest Period”), visit (“Website URL”) (the “Web Site”) and follow the online entry instructions. An entry will not be accepted if it does not comply with the online entry instructions on the website.
There is a limit of one (1) entry per entrant. An entry consists of a received submittal of accurate contact information for the entrant and two separate, original designs (“Looks”) of womenswear made entirely of Approved Materials, which are made from a majority of plastic materials that comply with all the requirements of these Official Rules.
Approved Materials. The Approved Materials for the Contest are fabrics derived from plastic material. A comprehensive list of approved materials can be found on Appendix A to these Official Rules. Submissions can include some embellishments, thread, trims, buttons and other notations that are not plastic based. Examples of such would be metal zippers, Swarovski crystal embellishments and metallic buttons. Non-plastic elements should be used only as embellishments.
Contest Theme. All entriesEntrants must submit two photos (one front, one back) of each of the two Looks submitted for a total of four images.
Rules for Entry: Entries must be made online, and submissions must be made in either a GIF, JPG or PNG format (maximum 3MB). Do not include any personally identifiable information, such as your full name, address, phone number, e-mail or any other contact information on the photos of the Looks.
All parts of your entry must be the entrant’s own original, unpublished work, and cannot contain anything owned or licensed by another.
By entering, you warrant and represent the following: (a) you are the sole and exclusive owner of your Entry; (b) the Entry is your own original creation; and (c) the Entry does not infringe on the rights of any third parties, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights. Sponsors/judges reserve the right to disqualify any Entry that, in their sole discretion, refers, depicts or in any way reflects negatively upon the Sponsors, the Contest, any person or entity, plastics or raw materials used to make plastics, or does not comply with these Official Rules. Any Entry, which in the sole opinion of Sponsors, is deemed inappropriate (e.g., defamation, nudity, gratuitous violence, inappropriate language) will result in disqualification.
All Submissions must be received by Sponsors by 11:59 PM EST on December 1, 2009. Sponsors are not responsible for incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, or misdirected entries, which will be disqualified. Only fully completed entries are eligible. Entries not satisfying these Official Rules will be automatically disqualified. All entrants must have a valid email address. In case of dispute as to identity of entrant, entry will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at time of entry. “Authorized Account Holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) responsible for assigning email addresses or the domain associated with the submitted email address. All Submissions become the sole property of Sponsors and will not be acknowledged or returned. In the event an insufficient number of entries are received, Sponsors reserve the right to cancel the Contest and shall be under no obligation to award the prize.
Eligibility: Participation is open to legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, who are 18 or older and have reached the age of majority in their home state as of date of entry. Contest is void outside of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. Employees, officers & directors of American Chemistry Council and Gen Art (“Sponsors”) and their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, partners, dealers, advertising and promotion agencies, manufacturers or distributors of Contest materials and the immediate families (parents, children, siblings, spouse) or members of the same household (whether related or not) of such employees/officers/directors are not eligible to enter. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
On-Line Voting: Beginning 12:00 AM EST on October 29 through 11:59 EST on December 15, all eligible entrants’ Designs will be displayed on the Website and visitors thereto will have the opportunity to select their favorites by following the online instructions. (See below)

- Add to favorites - the reviewers is asked "Add this item to your favorites?" with yes/no radio buttons.

Friend- The reviewer and creator have established a "friendship" before the reviewer reviews the item.
Stranger - No friendship is established.
The Results - Rankings
The average of all ratings results in an overall rating for each item. Once an item has more than 7 ratings, they are "ranked" from highest ratings to lowest ratings.

Judging: Ten (10) Finalists will be determined via online voting. These will be judged by a panel appointed by Sponsors (“Judging Panel”), which shall include Sponsors’ representatives to determine the Grand Prize Winning Submission. The entrant submitting the top rated Submission as determined by the Judging Panel will be deemed the “Grand Prize Winner”; subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Official Rules. The Panel will review each Finalist’s 2 complete Designs and rate each Finalist’s Submission based on the following criteria (“Judging Criteria”): (i) up to 40 points on Composition, (ii) up to 40 points for Originality and (iii) up to 20 points for Representation of the ThemeIn the event of a tie, tied Submissions will be re-judged based on the Originality score (and then Composition, and then Representation of Theme, as necessary) to break such tie.
Notification: The potential Grand Prize Winner will be notified on or around December 21, 2009 by Sponsors via email and will be required to sign and return, where legal, an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability/Publicity Release and license agreement within five (5) days of prize notification. Sponsors assume no responsibility for undeliverable e-mails resulting from any form of active or passive e-mail filtering by a user’s internet service provider and/or e-mail client or for insufficient space in user’s e-mail account to receive e-mail. Return of any e-mail as undeliverable may result in disqualification and an alternate will be selected. If any Grand Prize Winner cannot be contacted within five (5) days of first notification attempt; if any prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable; if potential Grand Prize Winner rejects his/her prize; or in the event of noncompliance with these Official Rules, such prize will be forfeited and may be awarded to another Finalist at the sole discretion of the Sponsors. Upon prize forfeiture, no compensation will be given.
Prize: The Grand Prize Winner will be obligated to create a sample collection 10 piece line using Approved Materials as described in these Official Rules, to show during Gen Art’s New York Winter Fashion Week Event (“Fashion Week”) in February and will be awarded a $10,000 stipend/award to be utilized as he or she sees fit for creating the collection. The 10 piece line may include the winning two pieces submitted to the contest.
The Grand Prize Winner will also receive a trip (two days / two nights) for Grand Prize Winner and one (1) guest to New York City, New York to attend Fashion Week. Trip details shall be further scheduled and developed by Grand Prize Winner and Sponsors, but shall include a single room (double occupancy) standard hotel accommodation for (two days / two nights); round-trip coach air transportation from a major airport near Grand Prize Winner’s home (as determined by Sponsors in their sole discretion) to New York City for Grand Prize Winner and guest; and transportation between airport and hotel and Fashion Week. Meals, taxes, gratuities, incidentals, other transportation and other expenses not specified herein are the responsibility of the Grand Prize Winner and guest. Grand Prize Winner’s guest must be at least 18 years of age and such guest must sign and return to Sponsor a Release of Liability and, where legal, a Publicity Release, at least seven (7) days prior to travel or travel companion will not be permitted to accompany Grand Prize Winner on the trip. Exact travel dates and arrangements subject to availability and any applicable blackout dates. Grand Prize Winner and guest must travel on same itinerary. The approximate retail value (“ARV”) of the prize will depend on Grand Prize Winner's point of departure/return, but is estimated at $1500.00 USD.
If Grand Prize Winner cannot travel on dates specified by Sponsors, Grand Prize Winner will forfeit prize and an alternate winner will be determined.
Additional Terms. Any attempted form of entry other than as set forth above is prohibited. Sponsors, its affiliates, partners and promotion and advertising agencies are not responsible for technical, hardware, software, telephone or other communications malfunctions, errors or failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, web site, Internet, or ISP availability, unauthorized human intervention, traffic congestion, incomplete or inaccurate capture of entry information (regardless of cause) or failed, incomplete, garbled, jumbled or delayed computer transmissions which may limit one’s ability to enter the Contest, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer relating to or resulting from participating in this Contest or downloading any materials in this Contest. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, extend or suspend this Contest should (in its sole discretion) virus, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, fraud or other causes beyond its control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or proper conduct of the Contest. In such case, Sponsor will select the Grand Prize Winner, or Finalists, as applicable, from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by Sponsor. Sponsors reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds, in its sole discretion, to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or Website. Sponsors may prohibit an entrant from participating in the Contest or winning the Grand Prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines that said entrant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, hacking, deception, or other unfair playing practices (including the use of automated quick entry programs) or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or Sponsors’ representatives.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, THE SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
Use of Data: Sponsor will be collecting personal data about entrants online, in accordance with the privacy policy located at http://genart.org/privacy (“Privacy Policy”). Please review the Privacy Policy. By participating in the Contest, entrants hereby agree to Sponsor’s collection and usage of their personal information and acknowledge that they have read and accepted the Privacy Policy.
Winner’s List. For a list of winners, please visit the Web site after December 21, 2009.
