Park City Success

Gen Art's most ambitious slate of programming to date for Park City was a great success. Our VIP Daytime Lounge hosted (and warmed) guests for 17 hours over the first weekend of the Festival, and the fun times continued at our four additional high profile events.

At the daytime lounge, guests took a break from the madness of Main Street to chill out, grab a complimentary drink (Patron, Stella Artois or Fiji water, depending on the mood) and network like there was no tomorrow. Shoulders were rubbed and stories were shared with indie film directors, New York and L.A. night timers, Lisa Edelstein of "House" fame, funny man Tom Arnold, Cory Kennedy, and for those who miss the original "92010", Ian Ziering.

After all the rubbing and sharing, guests took advantage of the Lifestyle condom hand outs from Miss Universe 2008, got their eyebrows done by Anastasia of Beverly Hills and utilized the free Wi-Fi.

Check out our daytime lounge photos here and read all the dirty details from the rest of our Sundance weekend here.

Doc Filmmaker opportunity: Travel the world and share your journey with millions

Gen Art is collaborating with a major corporate partner to send one documentary filmmaker around the world in search of something magical. If selected you will begin your journey at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23rd and finish in November in New York City, with many stops in between. Along the way you will meet some key influencers in major cities across the globe. You will be charged with creating episodic content to document each experience (roughly five minutes per destination) as well as keeping your audience consistently in the loop through social media, which will include uploading photos from the road, plus tweeting and blogging about your adventures as they happen.

You will be financially compensated for your time and effort, and it goes without saying that this is a truly unique opportunity.

If you are interested in this opportunity please email cinema@genart.org asap with subject "filmmaker journey" and we will send you an extended creative brief within a few days with details on how to submit yourself for consideration.

Proposals will be due no later than the morning of January 11th. The selected filmmaker will be notified by January 18th. If you have any friends or colleagues who you think might be interested feel free to pass this along.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Serious Moonlight Available on VOD

Last year The Tribeca Film Festival premiered Serious Moonlight, based on a screenplay by Gen Art Aluma Filmmaker Adrienne Shelly, who we tragically lost in the fall of 2006.  The film was directed by Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm) who also hosted our Delta Fly-In Movies event at Sundance in 2008.

The film is a dark comedy about a woman (Meg Ryan) who takes her husband (Timothy Hutton) hostage until he agrees to reconcile their marriage.  The cast is rounded out by Justin Long and Kristen Bell. You can watch the trailer on the website at www.seriousmoonlightfilm.com.  The film is currently available on VOD.

To learn more about The Adrienne Shelly Foundation, an organization which fulfills Adrienne's wish to do everything possible to help young women pursue their filmmaking dreams, and to assist others in making the same leap from acting to writing and directing as Adrienne had done so successfully, visit www.adrienneshellyfoundation.org.

DavidJr.com Rocks Out and Takes the Top Prize at Billboard.com

Our favorite video posdcaster, DavidJr.com, has just won Billboard's "Music on the Move" competition.  The goal was to capture as much exciting live music footage as possible for streaming on the web.  JR took the competition to a new level, spanning the spectrum from Times Square to his very own shower for a fantastic rendition of Frosty the Snowman.

For the full scoop and to see some of his winning videos (including those mentioned above) click here.  And you can also see more of JR's work, such as his festival coverage at Gen Art, by visiting www.davidjr.com

Alumni Mark Duplass & Katie Aselton Create Instant Hilarity on The League

A few years back we screened a couple shorts from The Duplass Brothers which featured Mark and Katie, and a year or so after that we shared their first feature, The Puffy Chair, with our audience.  Mark and Katie have now taken it to the TV screen with their new show on FX, The League, which tells the story of five 30-something friends in a fantasy football league as they deal with wives, girlfriends, and the daily grind.

This ensemble show features an amazing cast of comedy performers who are all at the top of their game, including Nick Kroll, Jon Lajoie, Stephen Rannazzisi, and Paul Scheer.  The show was created by Jeff and Jackie Schaffer, the former having been an alumnus of both Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

If you haven't seen it yet definitely set your DVR and make sure to catch an episode.  If you aren't cracking up after the first five minutes Gen Art will personally hire a surgeon to give you a funny bone transplant.
